Markus Chwajol is a neurosurgeon currently employed by the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He was born in the Czech Republic and moved to the U.S. late in 1990. After obtaining legal status, he joined the U.S. Army. He graduated Cum Laude from Columbia University with a B.S. in Neuroscience and Behavior in 1998, and earned his M.D. from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 2002. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at Montefiore Medical Center, the teaching hospital of Albert Einstein University in New York in 2009, followed by a Fellowship in cerebrovascular neurosurgery with the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in 2010. After which, he served as neurosurgery attending at Saint Joseph Medical Center and later Mount Sinai hospital, a level one trauma center.
